Who We Are

A Malawi-based charity for orphan care working in nineteen isolated rural communities around Blantyre.

Our Mission

Caring and Providing for Orphans

Each of Joshua’s nineteen communities suffer debilitating poverty. Poor roads, polluted water, minimal health and education facilities are exacerbated by the early death of adults through AIDS.

Joshua is running an ever-expanding programme of education, health, feeding, water and income-generation projects to address orphans’ needs. These programmes are tightly managed by an energetic team, who ensure that revenue is applied directly to address these projects. We involve both local people and international volunteers on working holidays, gap years and sabbaticals, or with corporate groups.

Our Staff in Malawi

Our staff on the ground have lived and worked in Malawi for many years and take great pride in working very closely with local people and organisations in order to clearly understand the many needs of individual communities.

SYLVIA AVGHERINOS, EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR

Sylvia has lived and worked in Malawi for the past ten years and is now a permanent resident in the country. As a full-time primary school teacher in Blantyre, Sylvia works energetically for Joshua in her spare time, and is a much-respected and well-liked figure in the local communities.

REDSON CHAMVEKA, PROJECT MANAGER

Redson works tirelessly with local community members, the government, and the Malawian Board of Trustees in order to effectively coordinate and manage each of Joshua’s many projects. He is currently completing an International Development degree at UNISA and also works closely with overseas volunteers from our UK-based volunteering partner Quest Overseas.

WINNIE KAPAMALULA, FOUNDER AND JOSHUA TRUSTEE

Winnie has lived in Pensulo Village all of her life, and was closely involved in founding Joshua back in 1998. Since then Joshua has developed and grown far beyond it’s original plans but, as a highly valued member of Joshua, Winnie is still enthusiastically involved in all of our projects.

STEVIE CHIGABULA, SCHOOL SPONSORSHIP PROGRAMME MANAGER

Stevie has been working with Joshua for the past few years and, among other responsibilities, coordinates and manages Joshua’s ever-expanding School Sponsorship Programme which supports more than 200 students at both secondary and further education levels.

Our Trustees in the UK

Joshua is supported by a board of trustees based in the UK.
